Adolescent ‘melo’ gathering for 200 girls in Dakor

On September 8, 2016, Pushpanjali -Dakor, in collaboration with Jag Prakash Kanya Chatralaya - Pansora and Auxilium - Baroda, hosted the first Adolescent Gather (Melo), bringing together 200 adolescent girls from 25 villages. Following registration and refreshment, the function was inaugurated with a prayer and the lighting of the lamp by invited guests, including Mr. Rajendrabhai Solanki (Taluka Development Officer, Thasra), Mrs. Bhanuben Parmar (Child Development Program Officer), Mr. Maheshbhai Patel (District Child Protection Unit Officer), and Miss Bhargavi Waghela (Police Administrator of Dakor Police Station), alongside Sr. Sunanda Solanki (Animator of Pushpanjali) and Sr. Nayana Vankar (Animator of Jag Prakash Centre). The girls enthusiastically participated in games and village-wise competitions, including Rangoli and Hair-Style contests. Sr. Sunanda Solanki and Sarojben Khristi welcomed all guests and participants with Tulsi and Jasmine plants. The guests praised Pushpanjali's initiative, emphasizing the importance of education and the resources available to adolescents within their respective departments. After lunch, the girls performed the Garba dance. The resource person, Mrs. Kirti Joshi, spoke on Child Rights and Child Marriage, clearly explaining the fundamental rights of every girl child using experiences from her work at the Government Children’s Home. Miss Deena Vankar, Program Coordinator of NavJeevan NGO, conducted a session on Life Skills using songs and stories. Mrs. Jessie Parmar, Taluka level Supervisor of Anganwadi, addressed Personal Hygiene and education to love, detailing the adolescent government schemes available at each Anganwadi where the girls are registered. Spot prizes were awarded for correct answers. Fr. Isaac, Rector of Don Bosco, Dakor, was invited to distribute prizes to the winners of the competitions and games. Each girl received a necklace as a take-away gift and snacks. The successful day concluded with expressions of thanks.
